Dennis Helfer is a Canadian farmer, and Elaine Helfer, a Canadian woman was her mother. Her parents are from German, English, Swedish and Norwegian origin. She went to William E. Hay Composite High School located in Stettler. Her three sisters, Tammy, Tara and Trena resided and worked on their family's farm.
